Motive Undetermined, Despite Discovery of Marijuana ‘Grow Operations’

He and Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader announced Sunday that investigators found three marijuana “grow operations” at some of the four Pike County scenes where eight members of the Rhoden family were found massacred here.

A killer or killers were still on the loose, and officials wouldn’t give many details on the investigation in fear of hindering search efforts, but they did say the killings were “pre-planned.”

“This was not something that just happened,” said Reader. “Most of (the victims) were targeted while they were sleeping.”

He said Sunday that he told the surviving members of the Rhoden family that they are also a target while the killer or killers are at large. “I told them to be armed,” he said.

Reader also said anyone in Pike County who feels threatened should also arm themselves.

“Ultimately, there is a threat because there is someone who’s done this and they’re still at large. And I would consider them armed and dangerous,” Reader told NBC News. Authorities won’t say whether they have identified a suspect or suspects linerangershacktool.com.

The victims were identified Saturday as: Hannah Gilley, 20; Christopher Rhoden, Sr., 40; Christopher Rhoden, Jr., 16; Clarence “Frankie” Rhoden, 20; Dana Rhoden, 37; Gary Rhoden, 38; Hanna Rhoden, 19; and Kenneth Rhoden, 44. A 4-day-old, a 6-month-old and a 3-year-old survived.

Autopsies on all eight victims were completed Monday, according to the Pike County Attorney General’s Office.

Gary Rhoden’s brother, Jamie Rhoden, said he had never heard of anyone in the family growing marijuana. “Today is the first day I’ve heard of that,” he told NBC News. “It doesn’t make a difference. That doesn’t change what happened.”

Leonard Manley, 64, told NBC News that the thing he would miss most about his daughter, Dana, is “being with her.”

“She went out of her way to help people,” he said.

Manley said if he had to guess, the suspect or suspects knew the family because one of the scenes where the bodies were found had dogs that “would eat you up” if they were unfamiliar with the visitor.

Dan Tierney, the director of communications for Ohio’s Attorney General’s Office, said the state has long had a marijuana eradication program in which they use aerial surveillance to spot grow operations.

The documents, entitled the “Laws of Base Ball,” were expected to sell for about $1 million, said SCP Auctions, the California auction house that conducted the sale. Bidding began on April 6 and extended just over two weeks online.

“Its gravitas was recognized by a diverse collection of astute bidders who pushed the bidding to a record level,” Dan Imler, SCP vice president, said in a statement, referring to the papers.

To see which e-cigarette ad formats were most persuasive to teens, researchers analyzed data from a recent nationwide survey of about 22,000 middle school and high school students from grades 6 through 12, when youth are typically about 12 to 18 years old.

When middle school kids said they routinely viewed e-cigarette ads online, they were almost three times more likely to use the devices than their peers who never saw ads. High schoolers who frequently watched online ads were about two times more likely to use e-cigarettes, they reported in the journal Pediatrics.

“E-cigarette ads use many of the same themes used to sell cigarettes and other conventional tobacco products, such as independence, rebellion and sex,” said lead study author Dr. Tushar Singh of the Office on Smoking and Health at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

“The situation is compounded by the fact that e-cigarette online vendors are using social network services to market their products – and many online vendor websites are very easy for youth to enter and make purchases,” Singh added by email.

Three million middle and high school students said they were current users of e-cigarettes in a CDC survey last year, up from about 2.5 million in 2014, according to a report released this month.

Adolescents who try e-cigarettes may be more than twice as likely to move on to smoking conventional cigarettes than teens who have never tried the devices, previous research has found.

For the current study, Singh and colleagues analyzed data from the 2014 National Youth Tobacco Survey, which asked teens about how often they used different types of tobacco products as well as how frequently they encountered ads for these items www.summonerswarhackguide.com.

Compared with youth who never viewed ads, middle school students who said they saw newspaper ads for e-cigarettes “most of the time” or “always” were 87 percent more likely to use e-cigarettes. High school students that routinely saw newspaper ads were 71 percent more likely to use the devices.

Always seeing e-cigarette promotions on television shows and movies was associated with 80 percent greater odds that middle school students used e-cigarettes and 54 percent higher likelihood for high school students, when compared with teens who never saw these ads.

Advertisements in retail settings were more effective than print or movie promotions.

The findings from this e-cigarette study mirror previous research showing how ads for traditional cigarettes encourage smoking, said William Shadel, a senior behavioral scientist at RAND in Pittsburgh, who wasn’t involved in the study.

“Advertising is thought to make product use seem more normative and acceptable, and to convey the impression that positive outcomes like having fun or feeling attractive will result from use,” Shadel said by email castleclashhackss.com/.

Music may help babies learn language better, in part by helping them learn to detect important rhythms, researchers reported Monday hillclimbracinghackss.com.

The study adds another twist to efforts to decipher why music seems to tap into universal human instincts, and the debate over whether it can make babies smarter.

Nine-month-old babies taken through 12 music sessions lasting 15 minutes showed more brain activity than babies who went through play and enrichment sessions without music, the team at the University of Washington reported.

“Our study is the first in young babies to suggest that experiencing a rhythmic pattern in music can also improve the ability to detect and make predictions about rhythmic patterns in speech,” said Christina Zhao, a researcher who led the study.

The babies were analyzed using a type of brain scan called futurefighthack.com/marvelfuturefighthack/. It’s a real-time brain scan, and after the 12 training session they got a little test aimed at babies. The researchers played music but missed a beat on occasion, and played them a pattern of nonsense words but occasionally violated the pattern.

The babies who had been through the music sessions recognized the mistakes more consistently than the babies who had not been given the music enrichment, the team reported in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences www.dragoncityhackss.com.

“This means that early, engaging musical experiences can have a more global effect on cognitive skills,” Zhao said.

“Babies experience patterns and they learn to be master pattern detectors,” said Patricia Kuhl, who heads the Institute for Learning & Brain Sciences at the University of Washington.

They trained the babies using waltz rhythms, with songs like “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

“The waltz rhythm is hard to learn,” Kuhl said. Its ¾ tempo isn’t natural, and doesn’t resemble human speech.

Nine months is a good age to try this out, added Kuhl, who oversaw the research.

The parents or caregivers interacted with the babies, bouncing them to the beat, and that seemed important. But it wasn’t just the physical coordination, because the babies who didn’t get the musical help did play with toys in ways that required coordination.

“In both the music and control groups, we gave babies experiences that were social, required their active involvement and included body movements — these are all characteristics that we know help people learn,” said Zhao. “The key difference between the play groups was whether the babies were moving to learn a musical rhythm.”

Kuhl believes strongly that music can help children learn.

“Schools across our nation are decreasing music experiences for our children, saying they are too expensive,” she said. “Music experience has the potential to boost broader cognitive skills that enhance children’s abilities to detect, expect and react quickly to patterns in the world, which is highly relevant in today’s complex world dragon mania legends hack cheats download.”

In that case, the Patent and Trademark Office last week similarly asked the high court to review a separate ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, which found in December that part of the same 1946 law used to challenge the “Redskins” trademark is unconstitutional — in essence approving allegedly offensive trademarks.

The federal circuit case involves an Oregon dance band called The Slants, a name that founder Simon Shao Tam said he picked to “reclaim” the word from its history of derision of Asians.

The Patent and Trademark Office rejected his application to trademark the name because it’s “immoral, deceptive or scandalous” — only to see the appeals court side with Tam, finding that that part of the 1946 Lanham Act, which regulates trademarks, violates the First Amendment’s protections of free speech.

Pro-Football Inc. said it’s concerned that a quick decision in the Tam case could doom its arguments to protect the “Redskins” trademark, which it wants the court to uphold roblox robux hack tool online.

The dispute is deeply important to many Native American groups, who have sought for decades to revoke federal protection of the “Redskins” trademark and to force the team to change the name altogether.

“He’s speculating on what would have happened if what happened didn’t happen,” said Amie Stepanovich, U.S. policy director of Access Now. “I’m not sure what metric he’s using.”

And Cindy Cohn, executive director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, said that instead of focusing on Snowden, the government should consider the obvious — that companies are deploying new technologies in response to consumer demand.

In 2013, Cohn said, 3.1 million phones were stolen in the U.S. The year after that, data breaches led to the exposure of the personal information of half of all American adults. And so far this year, 13.1 million Americans have become victims of identity theft.

“Information is gathered and stored by lots of different entities and not kept secure,” she said. “We’re living in a world where people are feeling increasingly vulnerable.”

Encryption products allow people to protect themselves from those vulnerabilities, Stepanovich said, adding that outlawing such products in the U.S. would make as much as sense as banning the toilet, or some other potential barrier to law enforcement.

Most encryption products aren’t even made in the U.S. A recent worldwide survey by security expert Bruce Schneier found that of the 619 entities that sell those products — such as email, voice and text message encryption — two-thirds aren’t American.

Cohn added that the government hasn’t publicly identified a terror plot where those products derailed an investigation.

“When Clapper says that ISIS worries about their security, I don’t doubt that,” she said. “But we really don’t have any situation where, but for strong encryption, we could have stopped a terrorist attack.”

Instead of raising the specter of more sophisticated terrorism — and condemning Snowden — Clapper should have praised the former NSA contractor, Stepanovich said, noting that government has itself described cyber-security as among the most pressing issues facing the country.

Snowden would have happily accepted. On Twitter Monday, he reacted to Clapper’s comments, writing: “Of all the things I’ve been accused of, this is the one of which I’m most proud www.csrracinghackcheat.com.”

Hastert’s attorneys had no comment on the lawsuit. In a statement earlier this month, they said Hastert “acknowledges that as a young man he committed transgressions for which he is profoundly sorry.”

The Republican, who led the House from 1999 to 2007 before becoming a lobbyist, was never charged with a sexual crime because, prosecutors said, the statute of limitations had passed http://www.8ballpoolhackcheat.com/.

He pleaded guilty to illegally structuring bank withdrawals to avoid reporting requirements for transactions over $10,000.

Prosecutors have recommended six months in jail. Hastert, citing his remorse and health problems, is asking for probation.

Kristi Browne, the attorney representing Individual A in the lawsuit, said he will not be at the sentencing and wants to stay out of the spotlight. “My client is counting on the justice system to do the right thing here,” she told NBC News.

She said Individual A — who uses the pseudonym James Doe in the suit — doesn’t have an opinion about whether Hastert should go to jail and isn’t necessarily happy that he’s been publicly disgraced.

“I think he would have preferred to have it remain private,” Browne said.

Prosecutors have said they expect two people to testify against Hastert at the sentencing: a woman who says her brother, who has since died of AIDS, was molested throughout high school, and a man known for now as Individual D, who says the coach performed a sexual act on him while giving him a rubdown www.moviestarplanethackcheat.com/.

In the case of Individual A, prosecutors say that after arranging for the teen to share a room with him, he had the boy take off his underwear and massaged his groin under the guise of treating an injury. Hastert, clad only his underwear, then had the teen give him a back rub.

Browne said that her client didn’t associate the episode with his panic attacks and other psychological problems until 2008, noting that many abuse victims blame themselves.

“Having a conversation where another victim referred to it as having been abused sort of opened his eyes to what actually happened,” she said.

The sordid allegations came to light not because any of Hastert’s former students came forward but because a bank worker became concerned about withdrawals the retired lawmaker made between 2010 and 2014 — $9,000 at a time from four banks, a pattern known to regulators as “structuring http://www.asphalt8airbornehacks.com/.”

When the FBI questioned Hastert about the money, he lied and said he just wanted to keep it in a safe place, prosecutors said. His lawyers later contacted agents and told them he was actually being extorted by an ex-student with a false claim of sexual abuse from decades ago.

With recorders running, the agents had Hastert speak with Individual A and claim he was having trouble coming up with the next payment. They said the other man’s tone and remarks were not consistent with an extortion plot.

Indeed, the lawsuit says that when Individual A asked Hastert for $3.5 million in compensation for “pain, suffering and harm,” he suggested bringing in two confidantes and attorneys to draft a “legal” agreement.

“But Hastert preferred to keep the negotiations strictly confidential promising to ‘pay every last dollar’ of their agreed monetary settlement,” the suit alleges.
